TRIFED inks MoU with ‘The LINK Fund’ for tribal development
- Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The LINK Fund on April 29, 2021, for a collaborative project titled “Sustainable Livelihoods For Tribal Households in India”
- Under the project, both the organisations will work together towards:
- Tribal Development and Employment Generation, by providing support to tribals for increasing value addition in their produce and products;
- Sustainable livelihoods and value addition, for increase in income and employment generation through technological intervention for efficiency in value addition for MFPs, produce and crafts diversification, skill training and enhancement of value additions in minor forest produce.
- The LINK Fund is a Geneva, Switzerland based philanthropic operational foundation and practitioner-led fund, working towards eradicating extreme poverty and mitigating the effects of climate change.
- TRIFED is nodal agency under the administrative control of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, working for the empowerment of tribals community in India.
International
US Army-led Massive NATO Joint Military Exercise DEFENDER-Europe 21 Begins in Albania
- The US-Army led multinational, joint exercise ‘DEFENDER-Europe 21’ has kicked off, in Albania on April 26, 2021 and will be conducted in more than 30 training areas in 12 countries during April, May and June, including Western Balkan countries.
- The annual US-led military exercises will be comprising of 28,000 forces from 26 nations, including the United States, NATO countries and their allies.
- The aim of such large-scale drills is designed to build readiness and interoperability between US and NATO and partner militaries.

RBI joins Network for Greening the Financial System as Member
- On 23 April 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) joined the Central Banks and Supervisors ‘Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)’ as a Member.
- NGFS is a network of central banks and financial supervisors that are willing to share best practices and contribute to the development of environment and climate risk management in the financial sector, while mobilising mainstream finance to support the transition towards a sustainable economy.

- As of April 26, 2021, the NGFS consists of 90 members and 13 observers
SIDBI launches SHWAS and AROG Loan Schemes for MSMEs for COVID Preparedness
- The two new loan products are
- SHWAS – SIDBI assistance to Healthcare sector in War Against Second wave of COVID19
- AROG – SIDBI Assistance to MSMEs for Recovery & Organic Growth during COVID19 pandemic
- These two new quick credit delivery schemes will facilitate funding for production and services related to the supply of oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, oximeters and essential drugs by MSMEs.

LIC Among Top Ten Most-Valuable Insurance Brand Globally: Brand Finance Report
- The state-owned insurance behemoth ‘Life Insurance Corporation (LIC)’ has emerged as the third strongest and the tenth most valuable insurance brand globally, in Brand Finance Insurance 100 report for 2021.
- The brand value of LIC increased by almost 7 percent to $8.65 billion in 2021.
- The annual report is released by London-based brand valuation consultancy firm Brand Finance, to identify the most valuable and strongest insurance brands globally.
- Chinese firm ‘Ping An Insurance’ emerged as the world’s most valuable insurance brand, despite recording a 26 percent drop in brand value in 2021 over previous year.
- In the strongest insurance brands category, Italy’s Poste Italiane was at top position, followed by Mapfre of the US and LIC of India.
- However, the total brand value of the world’s top 100 most valuable insurance brands declined by 6 percent from $462.4 billion in 2020 to $433.0 billion in 2021.

Amitabh Chaudhry Re-appointed as MD & CEO of Axis Bank for 3 Years
- Amitabh Chaudhry has been re-appointed as the Managing Director and CEO of the private sector lender Axis Bank for three more years by bank board.
- His second 3 years term will begin with effect from January 1, 2022, up to December 31, 2024.
- Chaudhry was first appointed as Managing Director (MD) and CEO of Axis Bank for a period of three years, with effect from January 1, 2019 up to December 31, 2021.
- Prior to that, he was the MD and CEO of HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company.

Veteran TV Journalist Rohit Sardana Passes Away Following Covid-19 Infection
- Renowned TV journalist and news anchor, Rohit Sardana, has passed away, due to heart attack, following the deadly COVID-19 infection.
- The young journalist was just 41-year-old.
- Sardana was associated with Zee News since 2004, before moving to AajTak in 2017.
- With Zee News, he hosted Taal Thok Ke, a programme which discusses contemporary issues in India, while with AajTak, he was hosting the debate show ”Dangal.”
- Sardana was awarded the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Puraskar by the Indian government in 2018.
Former Attorney General, Soli Sorabjee Passes Away at 91
- Former Attorney General of India, Soli Sorabjee, has passed away, battling Covid-19. He was 91.
- Sorabjee served as the Solicitor General of India from 1977 to 1980 and became the Attorney General of India for the first time from 1989 to 1990 and then from 1998 to 2004.
- The senior lawyer was honored with India’s second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, in 2002.
