PM Modi Inaugurates 7500th Janaushadhi Kendra in Shillong to mark Janaushadhi Diwas on 7 March

  • The Government of India celebrates the entire week from 1st March to 7th March as ‘Janaushadhi Week’ across the nation, since 2019, to create more awareness about Janaushadhi.
  • The last day of the week which falls on 7th March is celebrated as ‘Janaushadhi Diwas’.
  • The theme of Janaushadhi Diwas 2021 is “Jan Aushadhi – Seva bhi, Rozgar bhi”. 
  • The celebrations are held by conducting various activities throughout the week like Health Checkup Camps, Jan Aushadhi Paricharcha, Teach Them Young, Jan Aushadhi ka sath, etc.
  • The celebrations are organised by the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI), the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
  • In 2021, third Janaushadhi Diwas is being celebrated.
  • To mark the occasion, Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed ‘Janaushadhi Diwas’ celebrations through video conference on 7 March 2021. He dedicated to the nation the 7500th Janaushadhi Kendra at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong during the event.

First ever visit of Indian Naval Ships to the historic port city of Mongla in Bangladesh to commemorate 50th anniversary of 1971 Liberation war

  • The Indian Naval Ships, INS Sumedhaan indigenously build Offshore Patrol vessel, and INS Kulishan indigenously built guided missile corvette, are on three day visit to the historic port town of Mongla in Bangladesh from March 8 to 10, 2021.
  • This is the first time ever that any Indian Naval Ship is visiting the port of Mongla in Bangladesh.
  • The basic aim of this visit is to pay homage to the Bangladeshi and Indian combatants and citizens who laid down their lives during the Liberation War of 1971 against Pakistan.
  • The ships will take part in the ongoing Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations to commemorate 50 years of Liberation War of 1971 and reiterating the historic Indo-Bangladeshi friendship.

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurates conservation works at Singorgarh Fort in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh

  • The President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind was on an official visit to Madhya Pradesh from March 6 to 7, 2021.
  • During the visit, President laid the foundation stone for the conservation works of Singorgarh Fort in Singrampur village of Damoh district.
  • He  also inaugurated the newly carved Jabalpur Circle of Archaeological Survey of India.
  • Apart from this, President Kovind addressed the State Level Tribal Conference ‘Janjatiya Sammelan’ at Singrampur village in Damoh.
  • The program was organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Tribal Affairs Department of Madhya Pradesh.

  • Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan addressed the inaugural session of TechBharat 2021, via videoconferencing on March 6, 2021.
  • TechBharat 2021 is the second edition of the e-conclave, which brings together stakeholders from the HealthTech & Edutech sector on a virtual platform.
  • The conclave is organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati and IMS Foundation.
  • The main objective of this e-conclave is to facilitate interactions & deliberations between thousands of domestic & global participants, including policy makers, government representatives, industry members, investors & start-ups to nurture resourceful partnerships and boost growth in the sectors.

India’s first-ever Transgender Community Desk inaugurated by Cyberabad Police in Hyderabad

  • India’s first-ever ‘Transgender Community Desk’ has been launched by the Cyberabad Police at the Gachibowli Police Station in Hyderabad, Telangana.
  • The ‘Transgender Community Desk’ is first-of-its-kind gender-inclusive community policing initiatives in the country as well as world’s first-ever help desk for the transgender community.
  • The desk will be managed by a Police Liaison Officer and a member of the transgender community who is designated as a community coordinator.
  • It will act as the focal point for all grievance redressal among the transgender community in Cyberabad Commissionerate.
  • The desk has been set up by the Cyberabad Commissionerate in collaboration with Society for Cyberabad Security Council and Prajwala.

SEBI cancels the registration of Sahara India Financial Corporation as Sub-broker

  • Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has cancelled the certificate of registration of Sahara India Financial Corporation Ltd (SIFCL), as a sub-broker.
  • The decision has been taken by SEBI, due to failure of SIFCL’to fulfill the “fit and proper” criteria, in terms of Intermediaries Regulations.

Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat wins Gold at Matteo Pellicon World Ranking Series in Rome

  • In wrestling, the World Championship bronze medallist Bajrang Punia won a gold medal at the Matteo Pallicone ranking series held in Rome, Italy.
  • Punia defeated Mongolia’s Tulga Tumur Ochir 2-2 by criteria in the 65kg freestyle event final.
  • It is the second successive gold medal for 27 year Haryana wrestler, who had won the previous gold at this competition in 2020 by beating Jordan Oliver of the USA in the final.
  • Apart from this, the ace India woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat won gold medal in the 53kg title.
  • The 26-year-old Vinesh beat Canada’s Diana Weicker 4-0.

  • The 35th edition of the Boxam International Tournament was held from March 01 to 07, 2021, at Castellon, in Spain.
  • 14-member (8 men and 6 women) Indian contingent had participated in the event and concluded the game with 10 medals including 1 Gold, 8 Silver and 1 Bronze.

Former Rajasthan Governor Anshuman Singh Passes Away at 86

  • Justice Shri Anshuman Singh, the former Governor of Rajasthan & Gujarat, has passed away due to some health ailments.
  • He was 86.
  • Anshuman Singh was a retired Justice who served as the Governor of Rajasthan from January, 1999 till 2003.
  • Prior to that, he was appointed as the Governor of Gujarat state in 1998.

Dhyan Chand Awardee Veteran Indian Athlete Ishar Singh Deol passes away at 91

  • Dhyan Chand National Sports Award-winning veteran Indian athlete Ishar Singh Deol, has passed away. He was 91.
  • Punjab-based Deol won the Dhyan Chand National Award in 2009 for his lifelong contribution towards sports.
  • He was specialised in the field sports of discus and shot put.
  • Deol had competed in the first three Asian Games and won a bronze medal in the second Asian Games held in Manila, Philippines in 1954.

Noted Kannada poet NS Lakshminarayana Bhatta passes away at 84

  • Renowned Kannada poet, eminent academic, and critic Prof N S Lakshminarayana Bhatta has passed away suffering from age-related ailments. He was 85.
  • Bhatta was famously known as ‘NSL’ in the literary circles and Kannada music world.
  • He is known for his contribution of modern Kannada poetry, critical works and translations.
  • He also translated the famous 50 sonnets of William Shakespeare (Suneeta), 50 poems of Irish poet William Butler Yeats (Chinnada Hakki) and several other prominent English writers into Kannada.
