RBI raises limit for collateral free loans to SHG to Rs 20 lakhs

  • The Reserve Bank of India has raised the limit for collateral free loans to Self-Help Groups (SHG) under the DAY-NRLM (Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission) from Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 20 Lakhs.
  • Commercial banks provide loans to SHG. The new directions from RBI to commercial banks for this type of loans is as under:
    • For loans to SHGs up to Rs 10.00 lakh- no collateral and no margin will be charged. No lien should be marked against savings bank account of SHGs and no deposits should be insisted upon while sanctioning loans.
    • For loans to SHGs above Rs 10 lakh and up to Rs 20 lakh no collateral should be charged and no lien should be marked against savings bank account of SHGs. However, the entire loan (irrespective of the loan outstanding, even if it subsequently goes below Rs 10 lakh) would be eligible for coverage under Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units (CGFMU).”

RBI to impose monetary charges on banks if ATMs run out of cash from October 1

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the launch of the ‘Scheme of Penalty for non-replenishment of ATMs’, as per which it will impose monetary penalties on ATMs/WLAs that run out of cash.
  • The scheme shall come into effect from October, 01, 2021.
  • Quantum of Penalty
    • In the case where any of the ATM is cash-out for more than 10 hours in a month, a penalty of Rs. 10,000 per ATM will be levied.
    • For white label ATMs, the penalty would be charged to the bank which is meeting the cash requirement of that particular white label ATM.
  • RBI has directed all the banks/ White Label ATM Operators (WLAOs) to strengthen their systems/ mechanisms to monitor availability of cash in ATMs and ensure timely replenishment to avoid cash-outs and hence monetary penalty.

PM Modi launches Ujjwala 2.0 to provide free LPG connections

  • On August 10, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Ujjwala 2.0, the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), via videoconferencing.
  • After the formal launch, PM Modi distributed free LPG gas connections to 10 women virtually, at the event organised at Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh..
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath handed over the documents to the women on behalf of the PM Modi.
  • Under Ujjwala 2.0, an additional one crore LPG connection will be provided to low-income families who could not be covered under the first phase of PMUY.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani launches eNagar mobile application and portal

  • In Gujarat,
     Chief Minister Vijay Rupani launched eNagar mobile application and portal, for providing online end to end citizen centric services.
  • eNagar is a centralized solution to offer cost & time efficient, transparent and scalable web based citizen centric service and solution to the people of Gujarat.
  • Gujarat Urban Development Mission will be the nodal agency for eNagar project.
  • The eNagar will cover 10 modules with 52 services, such as Shops and Establishment, Registration of Marriage, Building Permission, Professional Tax, Hall booking ,Property tax, Estate Management, Fire & Emergency, Complaints and Grievance, Water & Drainage among other services, with online payment gateway facilities.
  • The Nagar project will cover 170 locations including 162 municipalities and 8 Municipal Corporations.

ITBP inducts women officers in combat role for first time

  • For the first time, two women officers, Prakriti and Diksha, have been commissioned as combatised officers into the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which is responsible for guarding India-China LAC.
  • The two women officers have been posted as Assistant Commandants in ITBP battalions, after completing their training at the ITBP Academy in Mussoorie..
  • Assistant Commandants is the entry-level officer rank in the paramilitary.

  • Veteran writer, philanthropist and entrepreneur, Sudha Murty, has come out with her new book titled ‘How The Earth Got Its Beauty’.
  • The book is published by Puffin, and features illustrations by Priyanka Pachpande.
  • Sudha Murthy is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, and wife of the co-founder of Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murthy.

Novelist Anuradha Roy’s new novel ‘The Earthspinner’ to hit stands on 03 September 

  • Award-winning novelist Anuradha Roy’s new book titled ‘The Earthspinner’, will be released on September 03, 2021.
  • The book will be published by Hachette India.
  • Before this, Roy has written four novels: An Atlas of Impossible Longing (2008), The Folded Earth (2011), Sleeping on Jupiter (2015) and All the Lives We Never Lived (2018).

August 7 to be observed as ‘Javelin Throw Day’ each year in honour of Neeraj Chopra

  • The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has decided to name August 7 as ‘Javelin Throw Day’ in India to honour Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics at Tokyo.
  • This decision is also an attempt to attract more youth towards the sport and get champions ready for a bright future in athletics ahead.
