Uttar Pradesh Government to set up ‘Electronic Park’ near Noida

  • The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has cleared a proposal to develop an ‘Electronic Park’, along the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, near Noida, to promote electronics industry.
  • The park is proposed to be developed in an area of 250 acres of the YEIDA near Jewar Airport.
  • National and international companies manufacturing mobile phones, TVs and other electronic devices and accessories will establish their units in the park.
  • The new Electronic Park will be built at an investment of around Rs 50,000 crore as well as generate employment for thousands of local youths.

CISF woman Geeta Samota becomes ‘fastest Indian’ to summit 2 peaks

  • Geeta Samota, a CISF women official has become the fastest Indian to do dual summit by scaling two peaks located in Africa and Russia.
  • The 31-year-old Samota successfully scaled the Mount Elbrus in Russia (5,642 mts) on August 13, 2021 and then Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 mts) on September 11, 2021. The Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, located in Tanzania.
  • Samota works as Sub Inspector with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a central paramilitary force under the command of the Union home ministry.

Iran becomes 9th member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)

  • The leaders of the eight permanent members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) have agreed to change the membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran from an observer state to a full member state.
  • Iran had held observer status for the past 15 years. Iran will be the 9th main member of the organisation.
  • The relevant document in this regards was signed at the 21st Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), held at Dushanbe recently.
  • The technical and legal process could take up to two years to conclude.
  • SCO currently have China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan as full member states.

Centre forms panel to firm up India’s sustainable finance road map; Head-DEA Secretary Ajay Seth

  • The central government has set up a key task force to assess climate and ESG resilience in India’s financial sector and recommend a concrete road map to strengthen India’s sustainable finance architecture.
  • The task force will be headed by economic affairs secretary, Ajay Seth.
  • Key recommendations made by the task force will include:
    • how to further strengthen the resilience of the country’s financial sector against risks emanating from various climate and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
    • how to grow sustainable finance in India and set a clear time frame for their implementation.

FSSAI releases 3rd edition of State Food Safety Index, 2020-21

  • The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya released the third State Food Safety Index (SFSI) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on September 20, 2021, for evaluating food safety across all States/UTs in 2020-21.
  • The SFSI index measures states’ performance to provide safe food to the general public as per FSSAI Act.
  • States and UTs are ranked on five parameters of food safety:
    1. human resources and institutional data,
    2. compliance,
    3. food testing facility,
    4. training and capacity building
    5. consumer empowerment.
  • The states and UTs are classified into three categories to rank under the index: large states, small states and union territories.
  • Top state in larger states category – Gujarat 
  • Top state in smaller states category – Goa
  • Top Union Territories – Jammu & Kashmir

Third India – Indonesia bilateral maritime exercise ‘Samudra Shakti’ begins in Sunda Strait

  • The third edition of the India and Indonesia bilateral maritime exercise ‘Samudra Shakti’  began on September 20, 2021 in the Sunda Strait, in Indonesia. The three day exercise will culminate on September 22, 2021.
  • Sunda Strait lies between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra.
  • The Indian Navy has deployed its two frontline warships Shivalik and Kadmatt, as well as long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft P8I, for the exercise.
  • The exercise will strengthen the bilateral relationship, enhance mutual understanding and interoperability in maritime operations between the two navies.

  • The Government of India has approved the appointment of Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari as the next Chief of the Air Staff (CoAS), with effect from October 01, 2021.
  • Presently he is serving as the Vice Chief of Air Staff.
  • He will succeed incumbent Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, whose tenure will come to end on September 30, 2021.

  • Justin Trudeau is in power since 2015.

  • The World Alzheimer’s Day is observed annually on September 21 globally.
  • The theme for World Alzheimer Day 2021 is ‘Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer’s’.
  • The day aims to raise awareness about the stigma that runs around the Alzheimer disease and related-dementia and motivate those who suffer from it.
  • Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that impairs memory and other mental functions.
  • The disease is named after a German psychiatrist, Alois Alzheimer, who first diagnosed the disease in 1901 in a 50-year-old woman.

  • Mahant Narendra Giri, the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), has passed away at the Baghambari Math in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He was 72.
  • ABAP is considered as the largest grouping of sadhus in India.
  • Mahant Giri was first made the chief of the Akhara Parishad at the Nashik Kumbh in 2014 and was re-elected for the second time in 2019.
  • Under Mahant Giri, the Parishad released a list of allegedly “fake saints”
