4th ISA Gereral Assembly Concludes with promise to achieve USD 1 trillion global investments in solar energy by 2030
- The 4th General Assembly of multilateral body International Solar Alliance (ISA) concluded with the member nations promising to achieve USD 1 trillion global investments in solar energy by 2030.
- The 2021 ISA General Assembly was held virtually from October 18 to 21, 2021.
- Overall 108 countries participated in the assembly, including 74 member countries, 34 observer and prospective countries, 23 partner organisations and 33 special invitee organisations.

India Ranks 79th in WJP Rule of Law Index 2021; Denmark tops
- India has been ranked at 79th spot among 139 countries in the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2021, the world’s leading source for original and independent data on the rule of law.
- Denmark has topped the index, followed by Norway and Finland.
- Venezuela, RB is the least ranked country at 139th spot.
- The index is prepared by Washington DC based World Justice Project to measure how the rule of law is experienced and perceived across the world by general public, legal practitioners and experts, in practical and everyday situations.

Arjuna Awardee Commodore PK Garg appointed as new CEO of TOPS by SAI
- The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has appointed Commodore PK Garg as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) effective from October 25, 2021.
- Commodore Garg will be replacing Commander Rajesh Rajagopalan, who held the post from 2018 till the Tokyo Olympics.
- The Arjuna Awardee recipient (1990) and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awardee (1993-94), Commodore Garg served as the High-Performance Director with Sports Authority of India till June 2021.
Captain Alok Mishra appointed new MD of India Ports Global Limited
- The Government of India has approved the appointment of Captain Alok Mishra as the Managing Director of India Ports Global Limited (IPGL).
- He has been appointed for a five-year tenure.
- IPGL is a state-owned entity tasked with developing and running the strategically important and India-funded Chabahar port in Iran.
- India Ports Global Private Limited (IPGPL) is a joint venture company formed by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Kandla Port Trust (KPT) and incorporated under the Indian Companies Act, 2013.

Rajnath Singh launches book on ‘Veer’ Savarkar
- Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh launched a book titled “Veer Savarkar: The Man Who Could Have Prevented Partition” recently.
- The book is based on the life of Hindu Mahasabha leader Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and presents many new facets of Savarkar’s life which are unknown to the country.
- It has been authored by Uday Mahurkar and Chirayu Pandit.

Australian Pacer Pattinson announces retirement from international cricket
- Australian fast bowler James Pattinson has announced his retirement from international cricket.
- However the 31-year-old would continue to play for domestic cricket for his State team Victoria.
- Pattinson had played 21 Tests, 15 one-day and four Twenty20 international matches for the national team of Australia during his over a decade-long career.

Former Hockey player Saranjeet Singh passes away at 59
- Former India international hockey player Saranjeet Singh has passed away. He was 59.
- The former State Bank of India hockey player was more affectionately called as Santu in hockey circles.
- He was part of the Indian team that toured Germany in 1983 and played for Coronation Club in local league, as well as represented Hyderabad juniors and seniors in the late 70s and 80s.
Colin Powell, the first Black US secretary of state, passes away at 84
- General Colin L. Powell, the former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has passed away due to complications from Covid 19. He was 84.
- Powell was the first Black United States’ secretary of state.
- The African-American diplomat served as the 65th United States secretary of state from 2001 to 2005 under President George W. Bush administration.
Sri Lanka’s first Test captain Bandula Warnapura passes away at 68
- Former Sri Lankan cricket player, coach and administrator, Bandula Warnapura has passed away at the age of 68.
- Warnapura was the captain of Sri Lanka’s maiden Test match, in 1982, against England, in Colombo.
- He had played 12 ODIs and four Tests in an international career spanning seven years from 1975-1982.

International Snow Leopard Day : 23 October
- Every year, October 23 is observed as International Snow Leopard Day since 2014.
- The day commemorates the anniversary of the Bishkek Declaration and to celebrate this endangered cat and raise awareness for its conservation and protection.
- It was on October 23, 2013, when political leaders from 12 countries came together to endorse the ‘Bishkek Declaration’ on the conservation of snow leopards.
- Snow Leopard is found in 12 countries. They are India, Nepal, Bhutan, China, Mongolia, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
