India received $87 billion in remittances in 2021: World Bank

  • India has received USD 87 billion in remittances in 2021 as per the report titled “Migration and Development Brief 35” released by World Bank and KNOMAD. 
  • KNOMAD is supported by a multi-donor trust fund established by the World Bank.
  • India is also the top country in receiving remittances in 2021. India is followed by China, Mexico, the Philippines, and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
  • As per the report, in 2021, remittance flows to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are projected to reach $589 billion. Also, the United States was the largest source country for remittances in 2020, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.

President Ramnath Kovind Presents Swachh Survekshan Awards 2021; Indore wins Cleanest City title for 5th Straight Year

  • The President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2021 at the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi on November 20, 2021.
  • Once again, Indore has been adjudged as the cleanest city of India for the fifth consecutive year.
  • Indore is followed by Surat in Gujarat at second place and Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh in the third positions.
  • 2021 is the 6th edition of Swachh Survekshan awards in which as many as 4,320 cities were surveyed.
  • The cities are ranked based on three parameters, which are service level progress (SLP), certifications and citizen’s voice.

PM Narendra Modi attends 56th Conference of DGPs and IGPs in Lucknow

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the 56th Conference of Director Generals of Police (DGP) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) organised at Police Headquarters in Lucknow on November 20, 2021.
  • The two-day meet has been organised by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in hybrid format. The conference will culminate on November 21, 2021.
  • The conference was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
  • Over 250 officers in the rank of DGP and IGP of all states and UTs and Heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations are taking part in the meet.
  • Some important issues that will be deliberated at the conference includes cyber crime, data governance, counter terrorism challenges, left wing extremism, emerging trends in narcotics trafficking, prison reforms among others.

Hema Malini and Prasoon Joshi conferred with Film Personalities of the Year at 52nd IFFI

  • Veteran actress Hema Malini and lyrics writer Prasoon Joshi have been conferred with the Indian Personality of the Year award for 2021.
  • The duo were honoured at the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 20, 2021. The event will continue till November 28 2021.
  • Prasoon Joshi is the incumbent Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)
  • Apart from the above, legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Istevan Szabo were honoured with the inaugural Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award.

Andhra Pradesh Tops IPF Smart Policing Index 2021

  • Andhra Pradesh Police has topped the ‘IPF Smart Policing’ Index 2021, among 29 states and Union Territories, released by Indian Police Foundation (IPF) on November 18, 2021.
  • Andhra Pradesh has secured first rank with an overall score of 8.11 out of 10.
  • Telangana Police is on second position with 8.10 points while Assam Police has secured the third position with an overall rating of 7.89.
  • With a score of 5.81, Uttar Pradesh is ranked at 28th position and Bihar has occupied the last position with 5.74 points.
  • The Indian Police Foundation (IPF) releases ‘IPF Citizen Satisfaction Survey on SMART Policing’ which aims to understand public perceptions about the quality of policing in India and the level of public trust in the police.

  • Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani has come out with her debut novel titled “Lal Salaam: A Novel”.
  • The book is likely to hit the stands on November 29, 2021.

  • The novel is inspired by the tragic killings of 76 CRPF personnel in Dantewada in April 2010 and is a tribute to the exceptional men and women who have given a lifetime of service to the country, especially in confronting the challenges in the red corridor.
