Centre notifies Rs 400 crore Scheme for “Promotion of Medical Device Parks” to support the medical devices industry

  • The Department of Pharmaceuticals, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has notified the “Scheme for Promotion of Medical Device Parks”.
  • The scheme aims to create proper infrastructure in the medical device industry sector, through higher levels of investments, to support the industry reach its potential.
  • Total financial outlay of the scheme is Rs. 400 crore
  • The tenure of the scheme is five years, from FY 2020-2021 to FY 2024-2025.
  • The Medical Devices Parks will provide common infrastructure facilities at one place to create a robust ecosystem for the medical device manufacturing in the country and also reducing the manufacturing cost significantly.

  • The world’s highest electric vehicle charging station has been inaugurated in Kaza village of Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh on September 23, 2021.
  • The electric vehicle charging station is set up at a height of 500 ft.
  • The aim of this initiative is to check vehicular pollution and promote electric vehicles for a clean and green environment in the region.

First edition of Himalayan Film Festival begins in Ladakh

  • The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur inaugurated the first edition of the Himalayan Film Festival, organised at Leh, in Ladakh from September 24 to 28, 2021.
  • The five-days-long film festival has been organised by the administration of Union Territory of Ladakh in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals (DIFF) and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • The festival has been organised as a part of the celebration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence.

WHO revises air quality norms for first time since 2005

  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced a tight revision in its air quality guidelines (AQG) on September 23, 2021. This is the first revision in the global air quality by WHO since 2005.
  • In the new guidelines, WHO has lowered the acceptable exposure levels to key pollutants, including ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and particulate matter (PM).
  • The revised thresholds of particulate matter “equal or smaller than 10 and 2.5 microns (µm) in diameter” are as follows:

  • bronze statue of Bitcoin’s anonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto, has been unveiled in Budapest, Hungary.
  • It is the first-ever statue in the world to pay homage to the mysterious cryptocurrency creator.
  • The sculpture has been unveiled at Graphishop Park, a technology park in Budapest.
  • The sculpture is the bust of a person wearing a hoodie with a Bitcoin (BTC) logo engraved on it. The featureless face of the bust has been sculpted with vague features to represent Satoshi Nakamoto’s anonymity. It is heavily polished to make it reflective like a mirror in which viewers can see themselves.

Education ministry constitutes panel to develop new national curriculum frameworks (NCFs); Head- Former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan

  • The Union Ministry of Education has formed a 12-member committee to develop new national curriculum frameworks (NCFs) for school, early childhood, teacher and adult education.
  • The NCFs serve as a guideline for syllabus, textbook and teaching practices for schools in India.
  • The panel will be headed by K Kasturirangan, former chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Chairperson of National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) drafting committee.
  • As per the terms of reference of the committee the panel will develop four NCFs, i.e. for school education, early childhood care and education, teacher education and adult education.
  • The panel will be required to keep in focus all the recommendations of NEP-2020 related to these four areas while proposing curriculum reforms.
  • Once developed, it will be the fifth NCF, which comes after a gap of 16 years..

  • The popular novel “Jungle Nama” by noted author Amitav Ghosh, has been released as an audiobook, which has voice of US-based Ali Sethi, along with the music.
  • Jungle Nama is basically the verse adaptation of an episode from the famous legend of Bon Bibi, a Bengali tale popular in the villages of the Sundarbans, about the forest goddess, Bon Bibi.

Odisha to host FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021 in Bhubaneswar

  • The prestigious FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021, is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, from November 24 to December 05, 2021.
  • The tournament will feature 16 teams from India, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Egypt, Belgium, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, USA, Canada, Chile and Argentina.
  • The previous edition of the tournament was also held in India in 2016, at Lucknow where India won the tournament beating Belgium in the Final.

Antyodaya Divas Being Observed Across India on 25 September

  • In India, the Antyodaya Diwas is observed every year on September 25, to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
  • Antyodaya means “uplifting the poorest of the poor” or “rise of the last person”
  • The day was declared by the Modi Government on September 25, 2014 and officially celebrated since 2015.
  • Through Antyodaya Diwas, the government wants to carry forward the message of Upadhyaya who visualised uplift of the poorest of the poor in the country.

World Pharmacist Day: 25 September

  • The World Pharmacist Day is observed on September 25 annually to encourage activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the world.
  • 2021 theme : “Pharmacy: Always trusted for your health“.
  • The day was designated in 2009 by the FIP Council (International Pharmaceutical Federation or Federation Internationale Pharmaceutique) at the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Istanbul, Turkey.
